The best decision you'll make today!
It's summer guys. Sometimes a good thing: holidays. Sometimes a bad thing: I saw a man wearing flipflops with a suit the other day. Whether you’ve been away and need to maintain your tan, or you’re stuck in Blighty for the foreseeable future and need to fake it til you make it, you’ll need to find yourself a good bronzer.
I've been testing out NARS' infamous Laguna bronzer and MUA's Bronzed Perfection Shimmer bronzer as apparently they look very similar, but are very different in price.
The best bronzer
The colour: Think a holiday in the South of France for two weeks. This is a very chic bronze. It is a muted cool-toned tan that has a whisper of shimmer in it. Not at all threatening to those who are scared of looking glittery.
The formula: Very smooth and blends seamlessly into the skin. While it does have a slight gold fleck to it, it's very subtle and gives a 'lit from within' appearance. I like it a lot. It can be built up if you prefer a deeper colour, but is particularly pretty dusted onto cheeks and temples.
On the face: The balance of matte and shimmer gives your features definition with a the hint of a glow. As it has cool undertones, it works well for contouring too if you want to chisel your cheekbones. A little goes a long way and it lasts throughout the day.
The colour: This whopper of a bronzer is embossed with a big old geometric shape, which harnesses two shades - a tawny brown, with warm undertones and a bobby-dazzling golden shimmer.
The formula: It takes some time to blend, but lasts pretty well. No complaints here. You can use the dark tan colour on its own, by directing your brush into the middle or focus your brush on the golden parts for a shimmery sheen. For the best of both worlds, swirl your brush around both colours to get something in between.
On the face: Well hello. The colour is actually really flattering on my cheeks. I thought this would look too sparkly, but to my surprise, it's actually quite subtle. Be careful how much of the gold stuff you get on your brush. I skirted around the golden shimmer, as I hate looking like a Christmas bauble.
Hands down NARS. Laguna ticks all of the boxes. Whilst I liked MUA's versatility of the golden shimmer (very pretty in light touches on the cheekbones and inner corners of the eyes) it was just a bit OTT. NARS on the other hand, is subtle enough to wear to work, but can be dialed up seamlessly for the evening. Fork out for Laguna and not only will it last you, but it will always look appropriate come rain or shine.
