Down a tiny mews off Euston Road in London is the ultimate destination for all things facial. Pfeffer Sal is a cool brick-walled, neutral-vibes clinic that is the very definition of haven in this crazy city. No stone has been left unturned with the interiors; aside from the chilled, earth-toned colour palette, there’s a host of ‘air cleaning’ plants that are as Pinterest-worthy as they are good for the air. And, because it’s underground, they’ve even added in an air purification system that sucks the bacteria and most importantly the airborne city pollution from the air. Pretty nifty.
But aside from how good it’ll look on your Instagram, what I’m really here to talk about is their Correct, Prevent and Perfect facial. I was recommended it after a few big – and persistent – breakouts that just wouldn’t relent. It felt like last chance saloon on the whole skin front – I’d tried it all – so I didn’t pin my hopes on this facial as a magical cure.
Luckily for me, I was mistaken. After talking through possible triggers for the breakout, what products I was using and what my diet, exercise routine and general health were like, my super knowledgeable facialist Chloe used a skin-balancing and exfoliating acid peel on my skin which, she warned, would likely cause some flaking in the days that followed.
Other than that, she made extractions, applied a benzoly peroxide treatment (to dry out and eliminate acne-causing bacteria) and gave me a large dose of blue (kills bacteria) and red (calming and healing) LED light. Afterwards my skin looked super fresh and nourished, other than the areas that had been extracted, and after a few days I noticed less angry redness and spots vastly reduced (they’d all dried out).
For me, what made the difference between a pampering facial and this one wasn’t only the clever cocktail of different skincare ingredients and techniques but it was the more holistic approach to my skin. Chloe gave me great advice on both my diet (eat more flaxseed and a multivitamin each day) and exercise (keep doing it), both of which can make such a big difference to your skin. She also picked apart my skincare routine and advised better products for my oily skin type so above all I had something to take away with me, other than the brilliant effects of the 1hr15 facial.
And, while this facial is great for problem skins, Pfeffer Sal also offers a whole range of other treatments, all that take this all-bases-covered approach. It’s well worth the visit.
