With simply millions of products claiming to cure all your skin problems (and a few more) it’s tricky to know what to believe. So to add a bit of light into the fog of products, we’ve picked the top five products dermatologists recommend for fighting acne. Yes, actual medical professionals said so. Not an instagram blogger getting paid for it or the sales assistant earning commission off every purchase. Dermatologists. Music to our ears!
All of them over the counter products – here’s what you can pick up:
Don’t judge a product by the bottle. It might not be the sexiest looking chap but it delivers some rather attractive results. Particularly good if you are on medication for acne, this fragrance free, non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores) it’s the kindest friend to your poor skin. Cleanse twice – once to remove make-up, second to get right to the bottom of pores. Unlike a lot of acne cleansers this won’t leave your skin feeling tight and dry as it maintains the skins pH level to regulate oil glands.
Stop the search! The best moisturiser for acne skin has been found. With salicylic acid it unclogs pores whilst it moisturises and leaves a velvety soft finish that serves as a perfect primer to foundation. It’ll also keep shine away too. Basically what dreams are made of.
Containing dioic acid (an organic acid) it kills bacteria and regulates oil production to leave skin tingly fresh and clear. It won’t strip skin of oil either so wrinkles or dehydrated lines won’t be made worse like other acne treatments. Use under your day moisturiser and at night.
Or the zit zapper as we like to call it. Apply directly to the spot – it puts a protective cover over them to keep germs out. The salicylic acid then treats the spot to bring down redness and inflammation.
For when old Perfect Pores Polly tells you not to wear foundation and let your skin breathe (few words make us more furious than those) you can say ‘this foundation is BREATHABLE!’ What that means is that it works like a mesh over skin to allow it to continue functioning as normal, allowing moisture to get in and stay balanced. It also contains ceravitae – a clever little thing that speeds up the healing process by stimulating cell production and 2% salicylic acid, which disinfects pores. Stays on all day so no need to re apply. You’ll never look back…
Once you've got the above in your arsenal, your skin will be looking top notch and you'll be wanting to show it off. Why not complete the look with a new red lipstick?
