Fans of Benefit’s Gimme Brow have gone through a tough time lately, as Benefit recently recalled their best-selling eyebrow gel. But fear not, it's making a comeback on 31st March! And if that wasn't exciting enough, Benefit have also confirmed that they will be adding five new shades to the range in June this year. We. Can't. Wait.

For now we’ve tested out the best brow gels so you can get yourself a Gimme Brow dupe in your life, pronto. In fact, we’re seeing if NYX’s £6 Tinted Brow Mascara could become a permanent fixture in our make-up bags instead…

The Best Eyebrow Gel

Blow-the-budget buy: Benefit Gimme Brow, £20

The formula: This tinted gel, with teeny tiny fibres inside that adhere to your own hairs, works to: 1) bulk up your brows, 2) tame and 3) fill them in. It’s also water resistant, so perfect for impromptu downpours and the gym.

The hold: It’s famed for being extremely long-wearing.  And thankfully, it doesn’t leave your brows feeling crispy, nor looking feral by 1pm.

The shade range: It comes in three shades; light, medium and deep. However, 5 new shades will be added in June, covering blondes right through to darker brows.

The brush: The diddly spooley need not be scoffed at. It’s nimble enough to fill sparse areas and the grooves on the brush pack the fibres onto hair to bulk up brows in just a few sweeps.

Bargain buy: NYX Tinted Brow Mascara, £6

The formula: A tinted gel sans fibres. However, the colour is quite opaque so it gives the illusion of thicker brows through shading, rather than fibre coating. It can be built up for a more intense finish.

The hold: The hold is soft to the touch, but controlled. Expect brow hairs to stand to attennnntion!

The shade range: It’s available in an impressive five shades, ranging from Ash Blonde all the way to a cool-toned Black Brown.

The brush: It’s much like a mascara spooley, so bigger than most eyebrow wands, however it has a tapered end for precision and the size means speedier application.

The Verdict: NYX Tinted Brow Mascara may have just taken the top spot here. The only real difference? Gimme Brow has a smaller brush and fibres, whereas the Tinted Brow Mascara does not. If you think you can live without the fibres and upgrade to a bigger brush for now, then definitely give NYX a whirl. Layering is just as effective at creating the illusion of dense, slick Cara D-esque brows. The shade range is also better if you find yourself stuck between Benefit’s shades – NYX’s Ash Blonde is hailed as the perfect shade for blondes. If you’re unable to turn your back on Gimme Brow’s itsy bitsy brush and magical fibres, NYX’s Tinted Brow Mascara could be a fun fling while you wait for The One to return. However, we can't wait to see the new Gimme Brow shades in June...
