Not sure how this has happened, but there's a definite theme to this week’s column. Whilst the UK is drenched in rain, I’m chatting about the exciting tanning, bronzing and sun products that you need to know about. We live in hope…
Oh. My. God. I love Ameliorate Transforming Body Lotion so much – I have desperately dry skin that at some points during the year, looks so scaly I could moonlight as a lizard. However, this cream quenches my very thirsty skin, for which I am incredibly grateful. So imagine the excitement on my face when I saw that it now comes in a tinted version?! What perfect timing, as inevitably I’m going to have to get my legs out soon – much to my dismay – and I’d really love them to be both hydrated and really tanned. Now they can be.
This is rather wonderful – it’s like the ultimate summer holiday product. It preps your skin by getting it ready to take on the sun, by boosting the skin’s antioxidant properties and kicking off the bronzing process by encouraging your melanin production ahead of time. Basically, you pop it on every morning the fortnight before your flight; when you’re on your holibobs apply 20 minutes before you go out into the sun (under your SPF) and before your after-sun in the evening; then once you’re back home use it morning and night for the next couple of weeks. Boom – the best tan you’ve ever had. I’m off on the trip of a lifetime to Colombia next month and this is the first thing that I’ll be packing in my suitcase.
Dr Hauschka do this incredible Rose Tinted Day Cream that is so good, every time I wear it people ask if I’ve been away (please make a body version Dr Hauschka!). However, the only drawback is that it’s so thick that my SPF doesn’t go on top very well. Now however, I’ve found their Translucent Bronzing Tint, which I mix in with my high SPF moisturizer and get both protection and a really nice veil of colour on my face. Perfect.
Right so this didn’t strictly drop onto the beauty desk this week, it isn’t even new, but I was recently clearing out my beauty cupboard (yep, that’s an actual thing. I have a huge cupboard in my bathroom just for my products and my boyfriend has one third of a shelf.) and I stumbled across this palette by Rimmel. I had forgotten just how much I love it. I am R.U.B.B.I.S.H. at contouring – I’ve been taught by the professionals, I’ve watched YouTube tutorials, but still just don’t have the knack. I used these wonderful, simple to use Rimmel sculpting powders for a wedding last year and I don’t think my makeup has looked better. Each one is labeled and there’s a handy diagram on the back that tells you exactly where to dust them on the face. Plus, they’re not scary colours – there’s no dark dark brown – they’re light and unintimidating. If you want to contour, but haven’t got a clue where to start. This is what you need folks.
I’m aware that I’ve already written about a tinted body product this week, but. Stop. Press. On the 1st May, Nars released the latest addition to the Laguna collection – their Body Tint. Not only is this so exciting, because let’s be honest who doesn’t use their Laguna bronzer and who wouldn’t want that bronzed look all over your body? But it’s also SPF30. What a perfect product to whip out when the sun, eventually, comes out in the UK, someone will obviously plans an impromptu BBQ and you’ll want to wear a summer dress. You can pop this on in the morning, knowing that you don’t look pale and you’re protected from the sun. Win.
