Don't be so sensitive
Don't be so senstive Image Credit:

Sensitive skin falls into two camps. There’s your hereditary sensitivity like eczema, that becomes sensitised from using the wrong products and often results in redness and dryness. The second meanwhile is more of an allergic reaction. Who here's felt the burn after applying a seemingly harmless moisturiser? Not cool.

Sarah Brown, founder of Pai Skincare told us: ‘It’s helpful to keep a product diary to identify your triggers. Foaming cleansers contain sulphates that change the skin's pH, so a cream cleanser or balm is much kinder. And wipes are the worst – they’re saturated in preservatives to stop them going mouldy.’ It’s all about finding products your skin is compatible with. Know your ingredients and take some time to monitor your skin’s reaction to new products: there are plenty out there.

Powder have tried and tested the products that will help restore some much needed calm:

La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Balm B5, £16

Whenever we've been overzealous with peels this salve has drawn the heat out of our skin in minutes. It’s the sophisticated (and better) alternative to Savlon.

Darphin Intral Redness Relief Soothing Cream, £43

For days when skin can’t take anything perfumed or fussy, this cream reduces inflammation and gives a much-needed dose of hydration.

Decleor Aromessence Rose D’Orient Night Balm, £32.50

It’s difficult to express just how much we love this oil. Massage it in upward sweeps from your chin and across your forehead. You'll be surprised how much your skin seems to come alive.

Pai Sea Aster & Wild Oat Instant Calm Redness Serum, £42

This is incredible for raw-feeling skin. Wild oat acts as an anti-histamine, while sea aster helps prevent flare-ups.

Dr Hauschka Soothing Intensive Treatment, £48.50

Removing a full face of make-up at the end of the night can leave skin hot and bothered, but a few spritzes of this infused water bring things back into balance.
