Celebrities launching beauty lines? Bit yawn. But when Bad Gal RiRi launches one, you take notice. Fenty Beauty (Fenty is Rihanna's surname) is no disappointment either, with row-upon-row of sellout products, Instagram hype galore and long queues as solid proof of that. And that’s just in its first three months.
The beauty of this line is the inclusivity of the products. It’s common knowledge that many brands don’t cater to all skin tones and Fenty Beauty is all about ensuring that women everywhere are able to buy a foundation that matches their skin tone.
And buy they have. The foundation, Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation, £26, famously sold out in many stores in only the dark shades, suggesting that not only is this a great foundation but there are simply not enough options for dark skinned women. That said, even if you’re the most alabaster going, Fenty caters to you too; in fact, there are 40 different shades, from the very palest to the very darkest, to choose from.
You only need look at Paloma Elsesser (my new girl crush), Slick Woods, Halima, Rihanna herself, Leomie Anderson and our model, pictured, to see how great the finish is – matte, medium coverage but not too heavy -and the array of different skin tones that can wear it. Thumbs up from us.
The ideology behind the brand is all about having fun with your makeup, instead of taking it too seriously. So natch they needed a highlighter. The Match Stix Shimmer Skinsticks, £21, are amazing and come as an easy-to-use stick and in the biggest array of colours you’ve seen this side of the rainbow. Unicorn (a purple colour) looks scary but is great on all skin tones, Starstruck is perfect for paler tones and Rum will set off olive or darker skins. Roll it around your eye area - from your temple to the upper cheekbone – in a C shape for unbeatable glow goals.
The newest addition to the range is the Stunna lip paint, £19, one of the most longwearing and comfortable lipsticks I’ve found. It goes on as a thick gloss, dries to a velvety matte and withstands drinks (to an extent) and all other daily tasks, including food. Fenty also claim that it suits every skin tone; true to their word, when we tried this out in the office, it literally suited everyone. And for one last POW_ER tip? Make like our model and wear it on your eyes as well – it gives a glossy sheen and sets off each and every eye colour.
