The Korean Way to Cleanse

If you’re in the know, you’ll be fully aware that the Korean’s approach to skincare has happily infiltrated the west. It’s not just the umpteen-step regime (they famously have around 12 steps in their nightly ritual), but it’s also the ingredients, textures and methods that we’ve fallen for in spectacular style. And why wouldn’t we when our skin looks this good?

If you’re not willing to go through these 12 steps of skincare, try one of the most important – and basic – elements of the routine: cleaning skin. You might already use a face wipe, a foaming cleanser or even water alone – they’re better than nothing - but to really change the quality, texture, tone and brightness of skin, you should try the ‘double cleanse’, something the Koreans are religious with.

Your first cleanse should be with an oil-based cleanser - even if you’re naturally oily skinned – because anything oil-based does a really damn good job of dissolving other oils, those you produce naturally and otherwise.

Your second cleanse is equally as important. In Korea, they tend to use a gel-based cleanser, like Estée Lauder’s Nutritious Micro-Algae Pore Purifying Cleansing Jelly, to remove any day-to-day residue and super-clean the skin of anything the first step might have missed. It feeds skin nutrients, decongests pores and leaves skin radiant.

The gel also contains three different types of algae - chlorella, spirulina and laminaria saccharina (try saying that three times at speed). All of these are protein, vitamin and mineral rich to help firm, detoxify, boost glow and generally balance skin – a.k.a. make it happy. Plus it feels extra cooling and soothing, making it perfect for any and every skin type around.

The best part about going double time on your nightly cleanse? Not having to do it in the morning, when you’re strapped for time. We keep it simple with Estée Lauder’s Nutritious Micro-Algae Pore Purifying Cleansing Bar, which is quick, simple and extremely gentle. It comes in a bar of soap and all you need to do is lather up and wash.

So, that’s the case for the double cleanse complete; great skin starts now.
