The skincare brand that celebrities love

Nowadays, being a social media-friendly beauty product is just as important as the formula inside; and sadly it’s not easy to decipher what’s good and what’s not from the picture. That’s why we’re here to sort the wheat from the chaff. One of Insta’s finest is Mario Badescu whose products are as brilliant as they are Instagrammable.

What you need to know

For a brand that’s relatively inexpensive, this skincare line is loved by pretty much every celebrity. The long list of glowing, smooth-skinned beauties include Jennifer Aniston, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Naomi Campbell, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Moss… I mean, talk about a glowing track record. It’s a true testament to the quality of the products that these big-earning ladies who can afford £1000+ creams are opting for this inexpensive line.

The brand itself is celebrating its 50-year anniversary this year, after Badescu himself opened his Manhattan-based salon in 1967, bringing with him (from Romania) a European style of treating the skin. Now, the product line comprises over 200 products - from body scrubs and shampoos to eye creams and cleansers. Every skin type is catered for because they use simple, botanical-based ingredients combined with high science ones. And, his facials are said to be second to none. Keep praying for that trip to New York.

What you should buy

I would place bets on the fact that anyone on Instagram will have come across these products at least once. They look fresh, minimal, clean and – I’ll be honest – pretty millennial which is what everyone wants from their skincare, right?

Here are the best of a great bunch:

Drying Lotion, £16

This pink paste (which makes it into many #nomakeup #justmeinallmyglory selfies) is the ultimate spot-fighting lotion. It comes in a little glass bottle that contains a blend of calming Calamine, drying Sulfur and unclogging Salicylic Acid to get rid of angry spots. Kylie Jenner is a fan of this one and regardless of what you think of her, her skin is super clean and clear – it’s a cult product for a reason. Dip a cotton bud in and dab on before bed to wake up looking much better.

Strawberry Tonic Mask, £15

I love strawberries; eating them, smelling them, looking at them. After trying this clay-based mask, I also love it in skincare, which lifts off excess oil, surface grime and skin-dulling dead skin cells for the Best. Skin. Ever. The strawberry is there for antioxidant purposes (defends the skin from pollution and other ageing factors) and Balsam Peru (I know, me neither) also calms irritation, making this the best all-rounder around. Apply a thin layer and wait 20 minutes before washing off.

Enzyme Cleansing Gel, £13

When devising a good skincare routine, the first place to start is with a great cleanser. This one is packed full of exfoliating enzymes, which break down the crap that accumulates on your skin, and also cleanses while it’s at it. Oily and combo skin types will love it because it’s a refreshing gel consistency and will work special wonders on your skin.

Facial Spray with Aloe Cucumber and Green Tea, £7

Face mists make all work worlds go round; keep this on your desk to wake a tired face up first thing or revive it come 4pm. It’s filled with soothing ingredients like aloe vera, cucumber and green tea so you’re left with hydrated, happy skin.
