There are a couple of beauty products that are silently going about their business and we feel it’s time their excellence be shared. Cult mascaras are taking the beauty world by storm, but until now they’ve gone largely incognito apart from the lucky few who have been fortunate enough to stumble across their brilliance.
Gone are the days of picking up a one-size-fits-all mascara along with cotton pads during your Saturday shop: mascara has become an object to be coveted, to be hunted down and – on occasion – stashed. Here are some you may not have heard of that the beauty cognoscenti are buying in bulk…
The non-smudge one
DHC Perfect Pro Double Protection Mascara: Tubing mascaras like this one are a godsend if you end up with black smudges under your eyes – unlike waxy formulas, tubing mascara are a much wetter more flexible formulas that coats a film around lashes. They’re removed with warm water, rather than oil, so the natural moisture on your skin won’t make them run. That plus the tiny wand of this DHC number equals evenly-coated lashes that will not budge until you force it to with a cleanser.
The natural one
Fairydrops Scandal Queen Waterproof Mascara: Yes we struggled to take the name seriously too but that was before we tried it. Now all we can say is, thank God for the clever beavers at BeautyMART who brought this over from Japan – it lifts, separates and never clumps. No wonder there was a bit of a scrum to get one when they first landed…
The strengthening one
Perricone MD No Mascara Mascara: Half lash treatment, half mascara, this would’ve impressed us on the strength of the finish alone, but we were totally sold when we noticed our lashes looked fuller after a week’s wear.
The super black one
Joan Collins Class Act Lash Boosting Mascara: The ultimate efficient mascara by the queen of glamour, Joan’s mascara is blacker than black and creamy, which makes for one hell of a flutter after a coat (or two – just keep going to amp it up, it builds remarkably well for something so wet).
The curling one
Jelly Pong Pong Fairy Lashes Curl Mascara: The names just get better… but if you’re used to your lashes dropping as the day progresses then get your mitts on one of these. The moringa seed resin dries into a flexible polymer that’ll hold your lashes up without a whisper of brittleness.
The lengthening one
Sisley So Intense Deep Black: With a clever comb to apply, it makes use of Sisley’s extensive knowledge base – as you wear, it’ll infuse lashes with peptides so they grow faster and stronger.
The bottom lash one
Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara: If you struggle to wiggle a big mascara brush into puny lower lashes, you’ll love this teeny tiny mascara wand that distributes just enough mascara onto lower lashes to enhance them (and, bonus, it’s another tubing one so won’t migrate down your face).
And there’s plenty more where that came from – head over to your Beauty Drawer to find the best one for you…
