A must read if you have combination skin

Shiny in some parts, flaky in others. We feel your pain. It’s a complete drag working out which skincare products suit your skin, because guess what?! You’re oily and dry at the same time. Brilliant. Well here’s a little tip that might just be the solution you’ve been looking for.

“It doesn’t matter what skin type you have, everyone’s skin needs the same groups of ingredients to thrive: antioxidants, skin-replenishing ingredients, and skin-restoring ingredients. The thing that each skin type has to be wary of is texture. If you have combination skin, then it would be good to use a cream for dry areas and a gel or fluid toner for the oily parts,” explains Paula Begoun – the skincare genius behind Paula’s Choice. You can also layer thin-textured products over the dry areas, only applying the lightest product to the oily areas.

Here are four products that we’ve tried and tested and have fallen in love with:

Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm, £40 – This cleanser is incredible. We’re not lying. It’s rich and moisturising for the parched parts of your skin, but rids your skin of the day’s dirt and grime. Don’t be scared of the texture, we promise that it draws oil out and leaves skin soft and clean.

Paula’s Choice Resist Advanced Weightless Repairing Toner, £22 - Who doesn’t wish for smaller pores? Thanks to this niacinamide-rich toner, pores appear smaller, redness is reduced and the texture of your skin is transformed from bumpy and rough to smooth and firm.

Mizon AHA & BHA Daily Clean Toner, £20 – Slightly different to the above Paula’s Choice toner, this one is particularly aimed at those pesky oily bits around your nose, chin and forehead. Soak a cotton pad and swipe around the areas after the Paula’s choice one. The salyclic acid (the BHA) will unclog pores and cut through the excess oil. Keep to these sections and try not to use it on your dry bits.

Clarins Hydra Matte Lotion, £28 – One you’ve tended to your oily bits, it’s time to moisturize your dry areas. This multi-tasker keeps skin moisturized all day, whilst taking down any shine thanks to wonder ingredient Willow Herb.
