If you have oily skin, then you're likely to be plagued by greasiness, spots and shine. We feel your pain; it’s a complete drag constantly having to keep powder or blotting papers to hand. Finding a good skincare routine, effective products that get rid of exccessive sebum and the best foundation for oily skin is essential, but here's a little tip that might also help.
“It doesn’t matter what skin type you have, everyone’s skin needs the same groups of ingredients to thrive: antioxidants, skin-replenishing and skin-restoring ingredients. The thing that each skin type has to be wary of is texture. If you have oily skin, then you should only be looking at gels or fluids”, explains skincare guru Paula Begoun of Paula’s Choice.
When skin is oily, you want to avoid emollient or oily ingredients that make skin feel slick and look extra shiny. Why on earth would you want to add oil to oil? Seek out absorbent ingredients, such as silica, in your products.
Here are four products that we’ve tried and tested and have fallen in love with:
Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip, £35 – A clay gel cleanser that doesn’t foam, but soaks up excess oil without stripping your face. It’s a little on the pricey side for a face wash, but we stopped buying a coffee on our way to work for a month and we’d already saved more than enough.
Origins Out Of Trouble 10 Minute Mask, £24 – This thick, but creamy clay based mask is brilliant at decongesting as the super-absorbent zinc sucks up all the gunk. It tingles for the full ten minutes that you have it on, but that just means that it’s working.
POW_ER TIP: Got a particularly angry and threatening spot? Pop the mask directly on top for a quick calming treatment.
Alpha H Liquid Gold, £40 – This treatment toner gets to work on balancing the skin and keeping eruptions at bay. Plus, it gives you the right type of shine. Depending on skin’s tolerance, use every other night or once a week.
Paula’s Choice Skincare RESIST Ultra-Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum, £33 – An ultra-light water-based formula is packed with antioxidants and replenishing ingredients, plus soothing anti-irritants so works throughout the day to reduce any inflammations (aka pesky zits). Use day and night before moisturizer. Oh did we also mention that it also dries shine free?
