The best decision you'll make today!
Last week we brought you beauty’s best in skincare; this week? We’re talking makeup. From the best lipsticks and eyeliners to blushers, bronzers and foundations, these are our tried-and-tested favourites; the makeup bag winners that really do work.
1st Place: Guerlain Maxi Lash Extra Volume Lash, £26
You can spend years searching for The One. And by that I mean the perfect mascara. But what makes a champion? Well, a not-too-big-not-too-small wand and a fantastic formula to match. This mascara is IT. Not only does it make eyelashes look longer, but it also makes them look thicker, lusher, and curlier. Mascaras can be quite subjective creatures but everyone who has tried this seems to agree; this could be the one of your dreams.
2nd Place: Rimmel Volume Flash x10 Mascara Black Extreme, £5.99
Proof that you don’t have to spend much more than a fiver is this old school Rimmel dream that will make your lash line look fuller after two coats.
3rd Place: Kevyn Aucoin The Expert Mascara, £24
The sky’s the limit when it comes to how high this one curls lashes - you can see just by looking at the brush that it’s perfectly formed for precisely that. Try the Bloodroses shade (a deep burgundy) for full autumnal vibes.
1st Place: Benefit Gimme Brow Volumising Eyebrow Gel, £20
Benefit is already well known for its insanely good brow products and this is Team Powder’s favourite. It’s a clever old beast as not only is it gel-based (holds eyebrows in place), but it’s tinted and contains tiny little fibres that add body. Whether you’ve got sparse eyebrows or are genetically blessed with thick, full ones, this will make them look more voluminous or just fill in those gaps, respectively.
2nd Place: Bbrowbar Brow Definers, £15
If anyone speaks the language of brow, its Blink Brow Bar whose range of products almost matches up to their unbeatable threading prowess in store. This retractable pencil helps define without making things look too in-your-face.
3rd Place: Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil, £29
A powder and a wax in one sleek pencil makes Hourglass’ brow offering a no brainer.
1st Place: Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipstick, £35
No one has lipstick down quite like The Lipstick Queen herself, Poppy King. This is one of those beauty brands dedicated entirely to the lips, which means that each shade, matte, gloss, balm or pencil is honed to perfection. The Velvet Rope series is matte in pigment, colour and appearance but without that drying, powdery feel that some others impart on lips; it’s all thanks to the clever blend of Vitamin E and Apricot Oil in the formula. For a Hollywood smile, go for Brat Pack or if you’re after an everyday nude, go for Star System. And enjoy the wonderfully ornate packaging too.
2nd Place: Lancome Juicy Shaker, £19.50
Lip colour that literally comes in a mini cocktail shaker is what dreams are made of, but Lancome have also hit the jackpot by creating a nourishing oil-based gloss that also imparts rich colour on lips. We’re obsessed.
3rd Place: Topshop Nude Lipsticks, £8
For staying power, rich colour and a great assortment of different nudes for every skin type, look no further than Topshop.
1st Place: Estee Lauder Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner, £18
An eyeliner that’s as creamy as they come and makes no excuses for its supreme smoulder. Not only will it intensify your waterline, should you so choose to apply it there, but it also makes a great smudgy partner for a cool girl yes-I-did-just-wake-up feline flick.
2nd Place: Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-lasting Eyeliner, £21
Waterproof and stays exactly where you initially put it – that’s what makes this an eye saviour.
3rd Place: Bourjois Ombre Smoky Shadow and Liner, £7.99
Designed to be both a shadow and an eyeliner, this blends easily and has a nifty mini sponge at one end to help achieve the perfect amount of smudge.
