Here's the thing, probiotics aren't scary, they're actually ‘friendly’ bacteria and can be found lurking around in yogurts, sourdough bread and miso soup – not only do you not taste them, but these foods are all considered good for you by boosting your immune system and digestion.

Now there has been an uprising of probiotic skincare and we’re repeatedly told how brilliant it is for your skin, but okay, okay, why is that? We rounded up heaps of questions and sat down with Claire Vero, Founder of Aurelia Probiotic Skincare, to help us understand exactly how they work and why we should be using them.

Why are probiotics popping up in skincare?

We use Bifido bacteria, which aren’t 'live' like the ones you eat. This means Aurelia products lasts much longer (so you don’t have to line them up in the fridge in between the jam jars and pesto) and work at a deeper level in the skin than active bacteria can.

How do these clever clogs work?

You know when you’re tired or stressed and your skin starts to look a bit sallow and dull? This is because the cells under your skin start to swell and stop working as quickly (so lazy). As a result of this you lose radiance and look a bit puffy. What non-live probiotics do is stop this from happening by regulating the skin’s immune response before your skin gets to that point.

How quickly will I see results?

Instantly. The oils within the products condition skin immediately. The probiotics are a long-term solution, so keep going with it and you’ll see how much more well behaved your skin is.

Whose your probiotic girl?

Anyone who’s looking to achieve radiant, glowing skin and wants to put up a wall of protection to help fight against premature ageing. This means that the products are suitable for all skin types and ages, and can be layered according to your skin's needs.

What's our excuse to splurge?

Probiotics are the basis of our anti-ageing care that improve our cells’ ability to cope with stress and protects our skin.
