Is this skincare superstar the secret to voluminous hair?

You’re probably well versed in the benefits of Hyaluronic Acid for skin – plumping, hydrating, firming, it’s a bit of a multi-tasker – but can something that makes such a big difference to the health of your skin really change the quality of your hair? King of the cut and hair extraordinaire, Rossano Ferretti - who tends to the locks of Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Middleton no less - certainly thinks so.

“In the world of hair, Hyaluronic Acid works in two ways,” he says, “The first is that it coats each strand in a film which locks in hydration and protects it from the damaging effects of heat.” And the second? “It’s a super hydrator for the scalp and boosts its functioning, which means you’ll notice better hair growth.” No wonder Kate Middleton’s hair is so wonderfully thick.

It’s a great ingredient for anyone, but particularly those with hair prone to breakage or a dry, irritable scalp. Over 40? The body isn’t quite as good at producing its own Hyaluronic Acid so you’ve probably noticed that your hair is a bit dryer, a little less luscious and not quite as long as it used to be; the answer to that is a Hyaluronic product.

Here are the best we’ve found:

Rossano Ferretti’s Rejuvenating Mask, £62

As rich, thick and indulgent as hair masks come, you’ll see a complete transformation in how shiny, full and healthy hair looks and feels after just one application.

POW_ER TIP: Apply to dry hair, leave for twenty minutes, and then wash hair as normal.

Kiehl’s Damage Repairing & Rehydrating Shampoo, £19.50

Colour your hair a lot or locks feeling a little brittle? This is your daily go-to. Aside from the Hyaluronic Acid, it’s got Ceramides and Moringa Tree Oil in it that strengthen hair and help it fall how it’s supposed to fall.

Kerastase Densifique Densimorphose Mousse, £21.80

Complicated name but Kerastase’s Densifique range is brilliant for lackluster hair. We love this mousse as it helps volumise hair at the root, while infusing it with nourishing ingredients like gluco-peptides that get to work repairing damage.

Rossano Ferreti Vita Rejuvenating Serum, £42

It wouldn’t be a haircare story without at least two of Ferretti’s products. As far as serums go, this is unbeatable. It won’t weigh hair down but magically gives hair that just-been-to-the-salon shine.

Fountain Hyaluronic Molecule Supplement, £27.99

And, finally, bolster your diet with a supplement to help combat dwindling Hyaluronic supply from the inside. Take 2 teaspoons a day, either with your morning juice or alone, and you’ll see a marked improvement not just in your hair but how your joints feel, too.
