Who doesn’t love having a tan? We look more toned, healthier, and best of all, we feel better. And as we become increasingly more aware of the consequences of sun damage, fake tanning is a smart option for those of us who prefer to sport a safe sun-tan.
Luckily, there are brands and innovators that are committed to bringing us new and better ways to get that elusive golden glow; read on to find tanning trends of the future. Keep your eyes peeled.
The tanning tights
Well we never. Tights that tan. Their inventor, Lisa Constantinou, is currently looking for an investor for her genius self-tanning hosiery. You put the tights on as you would a pair of ordinary ones, but these contain DHA, the tanning ingredient that produces a faux glow. Soon, getting a tan will be as easy as popping on a pair of tights for the office – now that’s what we call multi-tasking. Watch this space.

The tanning drug
Not one for the faint-hearted, researchers in the US have developed a drug that activates on contact with the skin to produce a natural tan, without UV exposure. The drug, called SIK inhibitors affects a protein in the skin that produces melanin, the pigment responsible for tanned skin; and unlike UV rays, it does this without damaging your skin’s DNA. More research needs to be carried out to see how safe the drug is, but the researchers hope this drug might reduce skin cancer in the future.
The rose gold tan
A first of its kind, this limited edition self tanner from Skinny Tan bronzes your skin like your usual self-tanner, but the formula (which is coloured to make it easy to see) leaves your skin with a glowing rose-gold tint. It’s perfect for summer and once you wash off the initial guide colour, you’re left with a tan that lasts for 7 days. What’s more, £2 from each sale will go to the Marie Curie charity, so you’re looking good while doing good.
